K'taka sanctions additional funds for sports development

Mysore, July 12 (UNI) Karnataka Youth Services and Sports Minister Goolihatti Shekar today said the government has sanctioned additional funds to the tune of Rs 25 crore for development of sports in the state.

Speaking after giving away prizes at the end of the two-day Mysore District Journalists Association sports meet here, he said the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had assured the funds in the budget.

He said remuneration to coaches in various disciplines would be increased. It had not been increased since last 20 years, he added.

Stating that the Chamundi Vishar Sports Stadium in Mysore would be upgraded to international standard, he sought the help from corporate houses.

Necessary funds would be allocated to various sports organisations to host sports events across the state, he said, adding, the government would make efforts to popularise all games in the state.
