KSEB women emerges Volleyball champions

Ponda (Goa) Feb 3 (UNI) Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) women today emerged champions, topping the table with 12 points brushing aside the challenge of Central Railway in a straight game of 25-21, 25-18, 25-17, in the First Prasananna V Ghotage All India Women's Invitation Volleyball tournament, which concluded here.

In an exciting match at the jam packed Municipal ground in the last league round match, KSEB women started at full steam and won the match comfortably 3-0 and were richer by Rs 9,000 and a trophy.

Central Railway with nine points had to be content with second place and pocketed Rs 6,000 and the runners up trophy.

Earlier, Karnataka scored an easy victory over Maharashtra in a straight game 25-10, 25-18, 25-17 in their last round and claimed third place with eight points, followed by Maharashtra with six points and hosts Goa finished at the bottom with four points.

Karnataka was awarded a cash prize of Rs 3,000 and Maharashtra Rs 2,000. Kerala's captain Sheeba P V was declared as the best attacker while Central Railway's Vashali Padathare and host Goa's Betty D'Silva were adjudged as best lifter and all rounder, respectively.

Goa, in their last match in the morning, put up a spirited display against Karnataka winning first two sets by 25-23, 25-23 but then failed to maintain their tempo losing last three sets by 10-25, 12-25 and 10-25 and lost narrowly to Karnataka by 2-3.
