Kochi Walkathon on February 18
Kochi, Feb 15 (UNI) The Kerala Management Association (KMA) in association with MetLife India Insurance Company Private Limited is organising a walkathon here on February 18.
Speaking to media here today, General Convenor of the Walkathon S R Nair said around 2,000 participants, including 500 from the Indian Navy, were expected to participate in the seven-km event with the theme 'Kochi Alive'.
Mr Nair said the event with a total cash prize of Rs one lakh would be conducted in four categories-general, women, children and veterans.
The first prize in the general category would be Rs 50,000 and Rs 5,000 each for other categories.
Mr Nair said judges would be monitoring the event in 10 to 15 vantage points and those not meeting the technicalities of the race would be disqualified after three faults.
The Ernakulam District Athletic Association would provide the technical expertise and the Cochin Hopsital would render the medical assistance for the event.
He said for every registered participant, the organisers would contribute Rs 20 towards the Ernakulam District Welfare Society.
KMA President Sunil Zacharia said the KMA was planning to make the event an annual feature of the city calendar.
