Kipchoge dropped by Kenya for world championships
EMBU, Kenya, Mar 12 (Reuters) Former world 5,000 metres champion Eliud Kipchoge has been left out of Kenya's team for the world cross country championships in Mombasa on March 24.
Kipchoge had been included in the provisional squad after the last month's Kenyan trials even though he did not finish the 12km race because of stomach cramps, but the 22-year-old was dropped on Monday after failing a fitness test.
Hosea Macharinyang and Simon Arusei are the only members of the senior men's squad that competed in last year's championships in Japan where Kenya won the 12 km team title.
Former world junior champion Veronica Nyaruai did not finish at the trials but has been added to the junior women's team.
Senior men: Moses Mosop, Gedion Ngatuny, Hosea Macharinyang, Bernard Kipyego, Simon Arusei, Edwin Soi, Richard Matelong, Barnabas Kosgei, Mike Kipyego.
Junior men: Mathew Kisorio, Nicholas Makau, Leonard Komol, Asbel Kiprop, Vincent Kiprop, Paul Mutero.
Senior women: Florence Kiplagat, Prisca Jepleting, Pamela Chepchumba, Frida Domongole, Vivian Cheruiyot, Emily Chebet.
Junior women: Pauline Korkwang, Mercy Koskei, Linet Masai, Mercy Cherono, Veronica Nyaruai, Gladys Chemweno.
