Khushlani 5th overall, 2nd in rookie category in Formula BMW series

New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) Young Indian motorsport talent Akhil Khushlani finished second overall and first in rookie category after first round of Formula BMW Asia series at Sepang.

Akhil, who was making foray in the Formula BMW circuit after being picked from a talent hunt and scholarship programme, returned a consistent fifth in all the four races yesterday and emerged the only second racer not to earn a DNF apart from the race leader.

The next round of the series will also be held at Sepang on June 23 and 24, according to information received here today.

''I am happy with my consistent performance and look forward to improve it in the coming rounds as I get acclimatised to my set up.

Though I expect very tough competition ahead in the championship, I am hopeful of a podium finish following my performance in the qualifying, practice and Round 1 races,'' Akhil said after the race.
