Kerala wins Inter-State Electricity Board Basketball
Chandigarh, July 31 (UNI) Kerala State Electricity Board won the 33rd All India Inter-State Electricity Board Basketball Tournament, concluded here last evening, by defeating Punjab State Electricity Board by 72-50.
Meanwhile, Tamilnadu State Electricity Board defeated Haryana Power Utilities by a margin of 48-34 for bagging the third place in the tournament.
Haryana Finance Minister Birender Singh gave the trophy to the winning team and distributed prizes for brilliant performance.
Manoj of Kerala State Electricity Board was adjudged the player of the tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Birender Singh said that the State Government was paying special attention to promote sports activities.
The annual budget of the sports had been enhanced from Rs nine crore to 63 crore during the last two years by the Government, he added.
He said special attention had been paid towards Basketball, Volleyball, Hockey, Football and Badminton.
Earlier, welcoming the Chief Guest, Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Managing Director P K Das and Haryana Power Sports Group President stated that the Haryana Power Utilities would recruit one hundred sportspersons in near future.
