Keep politics away from sports: Former CJ Malimath

Bangalore, Aug 30 (UNI) Former Karnataka and Kerala High Court Chief Justice (CJ) V S Malimath today advocated that politics should be kept away from sports.

''We don't want its influence in sports. We want to gain fame and hence politics should not enter any sport, especially cricket'', he said while speaking at a function organised by the Karnataka Patrakarthara Sangha to felicitate former cricketers G R Vishwanath and Brijesh Patel here.

He said cricket is a game which attracts all sections of the people.

However, to sustain the game at the highest level, proper training was necessary and influence of politics may hamper this.

''A revolution is necessary to keep politics away from sports'', he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police (KSRP) A R Infant said the corporate sector should come forward as government alone cannot contribute for the development of the sports.

Brijesh Patel said the Karnataka State Cricket Association had opened academies in 12 districts in the state to promote the game in moffusil areas.

The number would be increased in the coming days, he added.
