Kartik wins under-16 while Rishika sweeps both singles and Doubles
New Delhi, May 26 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh's eighth seeded N Sai Kartik won the under-16 boys title while Delhi's second seeded Rishika Sunkara won both girls Singles and Doubles title in the AITA National Tennis series here today.
Playing at the Yamuna Sports Club, Kartik made the match a one sided affair by beating Delhi's third seeded Shantanu Rajput 6-1, 6-2, to clinch the title.
Shantanu, who had won all his single matches before coming to the final, could not match upto Kartik's prowess and surrendered rather easily.
In the girls category, second seed Rishika crushed Haryana's third seed Shweta Rana 6-1, 6-0 to win her first ever National Series Under-16 title.
Earlier, Rishika-Shweta duo won the doubles title beating third seed pair of Andhra Pradesh's Neha Purohit and Maharashtra's Nataliya Khanejo after three well contested sets of 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
While giving away the prizes, Nandan Bal, Coach of Indian Davis Cup team said, ''There is no dearth of talented players in the country and tournaments like this, give ample scope to the players to progress further.'' ''All you young players are the future of our country and we have lot of expectations from you,'' he added.
''We need more AITA tournaments so that the players can attain International rankings,'' he concluded.
