Karti calls for inclusion of sports in school curriculum

Chennai, Aug 9 (UNI) AICC Member Karti P Chidambaram called for inclusion of sports and physical education in school curriculum if India wanted to match the prowess of China, Japan or Korea in sports and games at the international level.

''Sports and physical education must be compulsory subjects for school children,'' he said while delivering a speech as the chief guest at a felicitation function following a day-long international seminar organised by the Gi Toku Kai Karate-do School (GTKK) in India under the auspices of the All-India Karate-Do Federation (AIKF) here last evening.

He was a keen supporter of karate because the sport needed no infrastructure.

''All you need is a little open space and good mind,'' the son of Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said adding learning karate made a person strong both physically and mentally.

AIKF President and Former Chennai Deputy Mayor Karate R Thiagarajan said more than 500 delegates from across India,Sri lanka and Malaysia participated in the seminar which offered special training to Indian karatekas.
