Karthikeyan inaugurates Baja SAE India Mega Workshop
Pune, June 17 (UNI) Ace F1 driver Narain Karthikeyan flagged off a two-day Baja SAE India Mega Workshop at the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) here yesterday in preparation for the Baja SAE India competition to be held at Pithampur near Indore from December 21 to 23.
The competition is aimed at tasking Indian engineering students to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain.
The competition will endeavour to harness the talent of the engineering students and provide them a world-class platform to showcase their talent and potential not only in terms of design and engineering skills, but also assess their capability for teamwork, entrepreneurship, leadership and management skills.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the workshop, Karthikeyan urged the young engineers to strive hard to make their presence felt internationally, especially in F1 grand prix. Karthikeyan pointed out that in F1 racing, the engineering team has to play its role to perfection.
Teams participating in the Baja SAE India competition will be awarded points from a maximum of 1000 points across different static and dynamic tests like mechanical design, engineering and sales presentation, acceleration, hill climbing, pulling event, maneuverability and endurance run.
As many as 52 engineering college teams from all over India had registered for the competition and, finally, 27 teams were shortlisted based on strict evaluation criteria. The teams are now busy designing their vehicle.
