Karnataka, Kerala win opening league matches

Vijayawada, Jan 14 (UNI) Defending champion Karnataka won their opening league match in boy's section by outplaying Assam in the 33rd Junior National Volleyball Championship for Boys and Girls n at P B Siddhartha College of Arts and Sciences here today.

In pool 'A' matches, Karnataka defeated Assam 25-15, 25-14, 25-4, while Goa outplayed West Bengal 20-25, 25-10,25-18, 25-17.

Himachal Pradesh was declared winner after Chandigarh failed to turn up for the match.

In pool 'A' girls section, defending champion Kerala defeated Jammu and Kashmir 25-08, 25-06, 25-03.

In pool 'B' match, Tamil Nadu outplayed Gujarat 25-8, 25-8, 25-7.
