Karnataka beat TN in South Zone tourney

Hyderabad, Feb 13 (UNI) Favourites Karnataka defeated Tamil Nadu by five wickets in the third round South Zone cricket tournament for K S Subbaiah Pillay trophy being played here today.

Andhra defeated hosts Hyderabad by 91 runs and Kerala defeated Goa by six wickets in the other mathces.

Put into bat, Tamil Nadu was bundled out for a modest score of 194 in 49.5 overs. Vasudeva Dass (76 off 117 balls, 4x4) waged a lone battle in the Tamil Nadu camp. Others failed to resist Karnataka bowlers. Vinay Kumar was the pick of the Karnataka bowlers taking three wickets.

Later, Karnataka costed to a five-wicket victory with six overs to spare. Raghu (64 not out off 115 balls, 5x4) and Deepak Chougle (34 off 47 balls, 6x4) played responsible innings.

Andhra defeated hosts Hyderabad in the absence of the World Cup discard VVS Laxman. Put into bat, Andhra made 232 all out in 49.5 overs. Opener B Manoj Sai (62, 66 balls, 10x4) and Shabuddin (34, 39 balls, 3x4) were largely responsible for the respectable total. Hyderabad bowlers Alfred Absolom (3-56), MP Arjun (2-55) and Pragyan Ojha (3-37) failed to restrict Andhra crossing 200 mark.

Hyderabad, in reply, were bundled out for a paltry 141 in 45.2 overs. Barring Rayudu (40, 42 balls,5x4,1x6) others failed to rise to the occasion. Kalyan Krishna was the pick of the Andhra bowlers, taking three wickets for 17 runs.

At RRC grounds, Goa, put, into bat made 211 all out in 46.5 overs.

Swapnil Asnodkar (74 off 96 balls, 7x4) and Rohit Asnodkar (33 off 65 balls, 3x4) were the chief scorers. Among Kerala bowlers Chandran took 3 for 30, while Sri Kumar Nair took 3 for 41.
