Kaneria relieved after Pakistan World Cup callup

KARACHI, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Leg spinner Danish Kaneria was a relieved man after being named in Pakistan's World Cup squad today.

The 26-year-old was dropped for the one-day series in South Africa which ends in Johannesburg tomorrow.

''I didn't give up hope of playing in my first World Cup,'' Kaneria told Reuters. ''My selection means I can now try to complete my ambition of achieving success in one-dayers as well.'' Kaneria has performed well in the test arena, claiming 196 wickets in 46 matches. He has only made 16 one-day appearances for Pakistan.

The leg spinner believes the pitches in the Caribbean in March and April will suit the slower bowlers.

''I think the spinners are going to have a lot of success in the World Cup as many of the pitches have been relaid and traditionally conditions there help the spinners,'' said Kaneria.

''I am not going to experiment if I get a chance to play. It is going to be wicket to wicket and all about patience.

''I will just deliver what my captain wants.'' Pakistan play hosts West Indies in the opening World Cup match on March 13.

The other teams in Group D are Zimbabwe and Ireland REUTERS DH KP1840
