Kamal Chawla outclasses Berry, makes it to pre-quarters

New Delhi, July 28 (UNI) India's eighth ranked snooker player Kamal Chawla gave a spellbinding display as he outsmarted Bhupender Berry 60-24 to make it to the pre-quarterfinals of the National one-cushion carombole championship here today.

Chawla, brought an air of excitement to the dour proceedings so far with impressive breaks. He first captured a break of eight canons before going on to record the highest so far of nine canons, in the 37th visit.

With another break of five in the 51st visit, Chawla sped way past Berry.

Meanwhile, Sumit Talwar set up an intriguing clash with Devendra Joshi after beating Thailand-based Bhupinder Singh 64-35.

Later in the day, Ami Lal chanced on a life provided by Sandeep Singh by winning 37-36. Sandeep Singh was four points behind when he went to the table for his final 60th visit. He scored four canons to even the scores, but missed an easy setting to allow Lal to score the crucial point.
