Kadhe, Darp topple top seeds to enter last eight

Pune, May 29 (UNI) Promising local lads Arjun Kadhe and Aniruddha Darp put paid to the aspirations of top seeded Mohit Mayur and fifth seed Shravan Patil to breeze into the quarter finals today in the ATF Asian under-14 series tennis championship at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana courts here.

Producing an all-round game, Kadhe rated among the top talents of the city and a student of Vikhe Patil school, proved too good for the Asian No 2 and the top seed bespectacled Mohit Mayur in straight sets 6-3,6-3.

Playing his first international under-14 tournament. Kadhe a chip of the old block of former national player-turned-coach Jayant Kadhe made judicious use of pace to romp home without struggling much.

Mayur looked out of tune and gave away many negative points before bowing out.

In another encounter, Darp also a student of Vikhe Patil in Pune proved the organisers right for awarding him a wild card, by rallying from behind to get the better of the fifth seed.

Patil was defeated l0-6,6-3,6-4 in one of the longest seen on the day. After suffering a reverse in the opening set losing 0-6, Darp came back with vengence and produced some crisp drives on the flanks puntuated with net hugging drops to take the next two sets 6-3,6-4.

The seasoned Patil had no answer to the rivals percision and bowed out without a whimper.

Ankita Raina beat Sanskruti Jangale 6-3,6-2, Vaidhehi Bhagwat beat Ishaka Tirtha 6-1,6-1.

Boys Singles (Second Round) Arjun Kadhe beat Mohit Mayur 6-3,6-3, Romit Bisht beat Rohan Bhatia 6-2,7-6(7-4), Devpriya Jaiswal beat Adwait Sadwilkar 6-2,6-2, Aniruddha Darp beat Sharan Patil 0-6,6-3,6-4, Tushal Thawani beat Vishal Passi 6-4, 6-3, Sai Teja Palladugu Vinod Gawda 6-3,7-5,R.

Ramkumar beat Karan Karup 7-5,6-1, Bisht beat Ranjanvir Singh Durani 6-2,6-2.
