Justin Rose Maintains Lead At Masters While Rory McIlroy Makes Strong Comeback
Justin Rose maintained his pursuit of a first Masters victory by setting the pace with a solid second round. After an impressive seven-under 65 on Thursday, he followed up with a one-under 71, reaching eight under overall. Despite not matching his initial form, Rose's four birdies and three bogeys kept him in the lead, one shot ahead of Bryson DeChambeau.
Rory McIlroy made a strong comeback after a challenging first day. He carded a six-under 66 on Friday, putting him back in contention for the title. McIlroy was pleased with his resilience, stating, "I think, overall, just proud of myself with how I responded today after the finish last night." He is now two shots behind Rose.

Rose has previously led or shared the lead at the Masters without winning. Despite this history, he remains focused on using his experience to secure victory. Reflecting on potentially winning the Green Jacket, Rose said, "Beggars can't be choosers, you know. But I would take it right now for sure." His determination is evident as he aims to capitalise on his current position.
McIlroy's performance marked the seventh consecutive year he has been six or more shots back after the first round. However, his ability to bounce back demonstrates his belief in himself and his resilience. "I don't think I proved anything; if anything, I just backed up the belief I have in myself," McIlroy commented.
The leaderboard features several world-class players vying for top positions. Scottie Scheffler and Tyrrell Hatton are among those aiming to challenge Rose's lead. As competition intensifies, players must deliver exceptional performances to stay in contention.
The tournament also witnessed Bernhard Langer's farewell appearance at Augusta National. The two-time champion missed the cut after rounds of two-over 74 and one-over 73. Reflecting on his time at Augusta, Langer expressed gratitude: "It was a wonderful setting, and I've had a fantastic 41 years here at Augusta as a player."
Langer received standing ovations from patrons who appreciated his contributions to golf over four decades. He looks forward to returning as a non-competing past champion and cherishes memories from this iconic venue.
