Johl, Gangjee fail to impress on day one of Caltex Open golf
Seoul, May 3 (UNI) Indians had a forgettable day in office with Amandeep Johl and Rahil Gangjee returning horrendous four-over 76 and five-over 77 on the opening day in GS Caltex Maekyung Open here today.
Johl is lying at tied 94th with 21 others while Gangjee shares 116th with 16 other golfers in the 600,000 dollar Asian Tour event.
Chinese star Liang Wen-chong grabbed the lead with a blistering eight-under 64 and enjoys a two-stroke advantage over Australian rookie Mitchell Brown, who fired a flawless 66.
New Zealand's Richard Lee and Korea's Yu Jong-goo shared third place with matching 68s, followed by Scotland's Ross Bain and another local stalwart, Lee Gun-hee, a further stroke back.
Defending champion Suk Jong-yul of Korea could only card one-under 71 to lie in tied 16th place, with amongst others 2005 number one Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand and Chinese Taipei veteran Lu Wen-teh.
The Maekyung Open is the 13th leg of this season's Asian Tour, which is offering a record 28 million dollar in total prize money through the staging of 29 events.
