J&K, Punjab, Tripura, MP, Kerala win in school championship
Srinagar, Sep 5 (UNI) Hosts Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala won their respective matches in the 53rd national school football championship for under-19, which commenced here today.
Six matches were played out of the scheduled nine with three being cancelled as the teams reached here late this evening.
In the first match, hosts Jammu and Kashmir beat Rajasthan by a solitary goal scored by Umar Ashraf in the 41st minute of the game.
Kerala defeated Chhattisgarh by four goals to nil. Jepson Gaster scored two goals while Nowshad Shamim and Gose a goal each.
The third match of the day between Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat ended in a draw as both the teams scored one goal each.
In another match, Tripura defeated Uttarakhand 2-1. Lal Harliyana and Mahindra Jamatia netted one goal each for Tripura while Pawan Tyagi second for losers.
In the fifth match of the day, Madhya Pradesh beat Indian Public Schools by three goals to nil. Punjab defeated Orissa three goals to nil. Jubilee Singh scored two goals.
The matches between Chandigarh and Jharkhand, Navodya Vidyalaya Schools and West Bengal and Delhi and Pudducherry were cancelled.
