Jharkar Academy pip Kila Raipur Academy via tie-breaker

Ludhiana, Jan 17 (UNI) Mata Sahib Kaur Hockey Academy, Jharkar prevailed over a fighting Grewal Kila Raipur Hockey Academy by an aggregate 5-4 margin in the tie-breaker after sharing two goals in the stipulated period in the final of the Group I Western Union Punjab Hockey B League for Boys Under-14 being conducted by the Punjab Sports Department at the Punjab Agriculture University Astroturf Stadium here today.

The Kila Raipur Academy forwards failed to convert most of the chances that came their way into goal. They were awarded seven penalty corners and they could convert only one through through Navjot Singh in the 17th minute.

Down by the first-half goal Mata Sahib Kaur Hockey Academy were able to restore parity in the 53rd minute through Amritpal Singh who scored a field goal. The Jharkar forwards combined well on resumption. Their forwards got penalty corners in the 35th, 36th and 40th minutes. However, they failed to convert any.

With teams sharing two goals in the stipulated 60-minute session, the tie-breaker rule was applied and the Jharkar Academy converted four penalty strokes in reply to three by the plucky Kila Raipur Academy.

Rajbir, Sukhchain, Amritpal and Gagandeep converted their strokes with ease to fashion their team's title-win. For Kila Raipur, Jagmeet, Navdeep and Gurbir were successful. Navjot and Jagwinder muffed their chances.

Khusropur Hockey Academy defeated Amloh XI by 1-0 in the Hardline's Cup. The all-important goal was scored by Subhkarman in the 33rd minute after a goalless first session.

Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Gupta distributed the prizes.
