Jeev's record of not missing cut at Majors remians intact

Oakmont, Pennsylvania, June 16 (UNI) Jeev Milkha Singh's record of never failing to make the halfway cut at the Majors was intact as he carded a second successive five-over 75 to progress to weekend action on a day when big names like Phil Mickelson, and Retief Goosen, among others, crashed out of the US Open here.

Jeev climbed to tied 51st from overnight tied 77th spot, and inspite of a modest card of 75, Jeev's achievemnt is commendable as putting on Oakmont's infamous sloping greens often become a matter of lottery.

The highest ranked Indian golfer sunk in lesser number of bogeys, three in all, compared to six in the first round, but spoilt the show by dropping two double bogeys against a couple of birdies to aggregate 10-over 150.

A clear five strokes ahead of him is world no.1 Tiger Woods, who carded four-over 74 for a tally of five-over 145. Woods shares the 13th spot with overnight leader Britain's Nick Dougherty, alonwith four others.

Jeev, the highest ranked Indian golfer, was paired with American Anthony Kim and Hawaiian Dean Wilson in the first two rounds here.

The 2006 Asian UBS Order of Merit winner did himself and the country proud by making the cut at the Oakmont Country Club, considered by the likes of Wood as one of the toughest layouts.

Before this Jeev had made the cut at all the previous three Major starts also.

Atop the leaderboard, big-hitting Argentine Angel Cabrera and Bubba Watson carded identical one-over 71s but Carbrera still holds a one stroke lead with an aggregate score of even part 140.

Fijian Vijay Singh had a bad in the greens, nosediving from the fifth to tied 33rd spot after a disastrous seven-over 77.
