Jalandhar, Delhi, Chandigarh teams enter semis

Jalandhar, Jan 19 (UNI) Lyalpur Khalsa School Jalandhar, Government Model School Jalandhar, Guru Harkishan Public School Delhi and Government High School Chandigarh entered the semi finals of the 3rd All India Balwant Singh Kapur Memorial Schools Hockey (boys under-17) Tournament here.

Guru Harkishan Public School Delhi edged a 8-7 win against Satguru Public School Bhaini Sahib in a well fought match which was decided in sudden death.

In other quarter finals played at the Burlton Park Surjit Hockey Stadium here, Lyalpur Khalsa School defeated Lahore XI 1-0 whereas Government Model School Jalanhdar beat Government Sr Secondary School Maqsudan 2-0 and Government High School Chandigarh got the better of BRC Danapur 4-2.

In a well fought match between Guru Harkishan Public School Delhi and Satguru Public School Bhaini Sahib, both teams were tied at 2-2 till the scheduled time. Rohan Singh and Kamlesh Rai scored one goal each to give the team a comfortable lead(2-0),however, the rival team fought back to secure an equaliser through fine goals by Manpreet Singh and Dilbagh Singh in the 56th and 62nd minute(2-2). The Tie breaker also failed to produce a result (6-6) and then the match had to be decided through sudden death.

In a match between Government High School Chandigarh and BRC Danapur, Chandigarh's Dharmveer played well and scored three goals for the team while Sandeep Singh scored one. Deepak Kujur and Deepan Ekka posted one each for Danapur team.

Defending Champion Lyalpur Khalsa School made light work of visiting Lahore XI, defeating them 1-0. Both teams struggled hard and played a fast-paced game. However, both teams wasted a dozen penalty corners during the course of the match.

The lone goal of the match was scored by Rakesh Kumar in 47th minute.

In the first match of the day, Sukhdeep Singh of Government Model School Jalandhar posted two spectacular field goals against Government Sr Secondary School Maqsudan and enabled the team to enter the semi finals.

The Semi finals would be played tomorrow and the final on Sunday.

Doordarhan Sports(DD-Sports) would telecast the semi finals and final match live, a tournament organisers spokesman said.
