It's not about cementing position: Gambhir
Dhaka, May 12 (UNI) Dashing Delhi opener Gautam Gambhir, while stating that he was deeply honoured to have played a part in India's win against Bangladesh, said his innings was not about cementing his position in the team.
''I am very happy to have scored a century. It is really a great honour to wear India colours and score a ton,'' Gambhir, who was awarded man of the match today, told the media in the post match meet.
Gambhir scored a measured 101 that laid the foundation for India's imposing 284 that helped them earn a facile 46-run win over hosts Bangladesh .
''It was not easy to go out there and score in those conditions.
I had bad cramps. However, I fought it. I knew it was an important innings. The idea was to play for long and stick around till the 40th over at least,'' said Gambhir, who also picked a purse for the fastest fifty of the match today.
On whether he was assured of cementing his place in the side, he said, ''It's not about cementing my place.I am happy that I played a part in India's victory. I am concentrating on each game and not thinking long term.'' He further added that it was special to come back after a long time into the side and score a ton. ''Coming back into the side after a long time, makes this innings special,'' he said.
Gambhir cracked the second ton of his ODI career today.
Incidentally, he made his debut against Bangladesh only. His first hundred came against Sri lanka in 2005 in Ahmedabad.
