Inzamam eyeing county and domestic circuit to impress selectors

Lahore, Apr 28 (UNI) Apprehensive of not making it to the Test squad for the home series against South Africa, former Pakistan skipper Inzamamul Haq is targetting county cricket as well as the coming domestic season to impress the newly-appointed selection panel in a bid to prolong his career in the longer version of the game.

The News quoted Inzamam, who retired from ODI after leading Pakistan to a disastrous World Cup campaign, as saying that he was negotiating with English clubs through his agent and also eyeing the domestic season at home to prove his form and fitness.

''South Africa will tour Pakistan from September 25th to play a Test series while we tour India for three Tests in November. Then the Australians are also coming to Pakistan early next year. I am keen to play in the Test team in these matches as they are all against good sides,'' Inzamam said.

''The rest is upto the selectors. I want to play Test cricket that is why I am aiming to play domestic cricket to keep myself in form and fit,'' he added.

Citing reasons for his sudden decision to hang up his boots from ODIs, the 37-year-old batsman said, ''I have retired from one-dayers because it is better if the selectors gave a younger player a chance to establish himself. But I still enjoy playing cricket and Test matches are a real challenge.'' UNI XC SSC SAM PM1616
