Intl spiker P S Srikanth to lead India in Commonwealth meet

Bangalore, July 24 (UNI) International spiker P S Srikanth will lead a 12-member Indian team in the Commonwealth Volleyball Championship, to be held in Kolkata from July 29 to August 4.

Volleyball Federation of India Joint Secretary K Nandakumar, who would be accompanying the team as manager, said India, placed in Group A along with Australia, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Bangladesh, would begin their campaign against Lanka on July 29.

Group B has Canada, Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa.

The Championship would be played on league-cum-knockout basis with the top two teams from each group advancing into semifinals knockout.

The team: P S Srikanth (Capt), G Pradeep, Vibin M George, R Sivarajan (Libero), M Ukkarapandian, Sanjay Kumar, Sube Singh, Jitendra, Mandeep Singh, Guruchand Singh, N Shelton Moses and K J Kapil Dev.

Chief Coach: G E Sridharan, Asst Coach: S Karimullah, Trainer S T Harilal, Manager: K Nandakumar.

The Gold winners in the recently concluded Asian Central Zone Volleyball Championship in Pakistan, Indian spikers underwent a rigorous training camp at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Southern Centre on the outskirts of the City from July four under the watchful eyes of former International G E Sridharan. The team would be leaving for Kolkata on July 27.
