Inquest delayed- Coroner's office still to get report
Kingston, Mar 28 (UNI) Five days after the Commissioner of Police Lucius Thomas ordered a coroner's inquiry into the death of the former Pakistan cricket coach, Bob Woolmer, the Coroner's office is yet to get its hands on the report.
The coroner's office yesterday revealed that coroner Patrick Murphy had not yet received the report from the police although they have begun the process of summoning potential jurors, according to 'The Gleaner'.
However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of crime, Mark Shields, said the report, which is ''virtually ready'' will be sent ''as soon as possible''.
Asked if this meant by the end of the week, Mr Shields said, ''Certainly. Yes, yes.'' Now it seems Jamaica police will order a second post- mortem examination on Woolmer's dead body to guard against possible ''bungling claims'' of the first report and to release the body to the late coach's family for burial without further delay.
Woolmer's body has still not been expatriated to Cape Town, South Africa where he lived with his wife Gill and two sons. His body is being stored at a local funeral parlour, and will remain under the jurisdiction of coroner until the inquest is completed.
Meanwhile, referring to the CCTV footages, the police said ''the process is going to take some time'' as the police have to analyse the tape frame by frame.
Mr Shields dismissed media reports that two players were seen on the 12th floor in the wee hours of the morning, suggesting that they may be involved in the murder.
