Indians rule the ring in sub-junior, junior in YMCA boxing
New Delhi, Feb 1 (UNI) Indian pugilists cornered all but one Gold on offer in each of the sub-junior and junior sections on the penultimate day of the 10th YMCA International Boxing Championships here today.
V Santosh Kumar was the most impressive of the Indian Gold winners among sub-juniors as he pulverised his Kazakh opponent Smagulov Yerlan and the referee had to stop the contest in favour of the Indian in 57 kg category.
Three of the sub-junior final bouts were all-Indian affairs in which Bajrang (54kg), Vipin Kumar (50 kg) and Nanao Singh (48 kg) came out victorious while Raman Janeyulu beat Baimyrzayev Meirambek of Kazakhstan to take Gold in 52 kg.
Umesh Kumar was the lone Indian who settled for a Silver, losing to Agyabayev Almat of Kazakhstan in the 46 kg sub-junior final.
In the juniors section, Sandeep (48 kg), Sunil (51 kg), Roshan (54 kg) and Rakesh (60 kg) won Gold while Kulvinder had to be content with Silver, going down to Issa Sadykov of Kazakhstan on points (35:32) in 57 kg category.
In all, India has collected nine Gold -- five and four in sub-juniors and juniors sections respectively --, seven Silver and 12 Bronze in the competition so far.
The final bouts of 60 kg, 66 kg, 70 kg and 80 kg in sub-juniors and 64 kg, 69 kg, 75 kg, 81 klg, 91 kg and 91+ kg categories in juniors will be held tomorrow.
