Indian Weightlifters eager to prove a point in World Championship

Patiala, July 28 (UNI) Indian women weightlifters are working very hard in the ongoing national coaching camp here at the NIS for the World Weightlifting Championship to be held in in Thailand from September 15 to 24.

Eleven women lifters are in training since May 18 under the supervision of SAI weightlifting coaches Dronacharya awardee Hansa Sharma, K Amarnath and Ranjan Singh.

The Indian women weightlifters has been rocked with doping charges in the recent past. The women weightlifters would like to bury the hatchet and prove a point or two in the championship.

The national trials are billed for July 31st at the NIS in the afternoon when the Indian women squad for World Weighlifting Championship will be announced in seven weight categories -- 48 kg, 53 kg, 58 kg, 63 kg, 69 kg, 75 kg and 75 kg+.

Sydney Olympics bronze medallist Karnam Malleswari, who is working very hard in the camp told UNI that she is in a fine fettle and is likely to do well in Chinghai.
