Indian Railways retain the championship

Jalandhar, Feb 9 (UNI) Defending champions Indian Railways retained the title by defeating Jharkhand (3-1) in the final of the 55th Rakshak Senior Women Hockey championship played at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here today.

For the Railways, Suman Bala scored the first goal by converting a penalty corner in the 8th minute, while Asunita Lakra sounded the board with a field goal in the 27th minute. Suman Bala again posted a goal by converting a penalty corner in the 62nd minute.

Susila Lakra fired the only goal for Jharkhand in the 52nd minute.

Railways were awarded 22 penalty corners whereas Jharkhand got just two.

Railways became the champion for the 22nd time, while Jharkhand reached the final of the championship for the first time.
