Indian men swimmers bag 10 more gold medals


Lahore, Sep 8: Indian men swimmers added ten more gold medals to their kitty on the second day of men's events to make it a total of 19 golds in the inaugural South Asian Swimming and Water Polo Championship 2007 at Pakistan Sports Complex here.

In the 400 meter individual medley open category, India's Agnishwar Jayaparkash won the gold medal with 4 minutes and 48 seconds completion while compatriot Aditya Sangverkar finished the distance in 4 minutes and 51.67 seconds to win silver. The bronze medal was won by Pakistan's Adil Baig with 5 minutes and 11.46 seconds finish.

In the 200 meter individual medley age group category, India's Gopinath Kayal crossed the distance in 2 minutes and 26.83 seconds while Sri Lanka's Rajitha Pathum, 2 minutes and 35.34 seconds, took silver and India's Swarup Mondal won the bronze by finishing the distance in 2 minutes and 36.14 seconds.

In 100 meter breaststroke open category, India's Agnishwar Jayaparkash added another gold with 1 minute and 07.73 seconds completion. The silver was won by Abdul Aziz from Pakistan, 1 minute and 10.25 seconds while Sri Lanka's M A Chanaka got the bronze medal in 1 minute and 12.03 seconds.

After the above performances yesterday, India tops the medals tally with 19 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze medals followed by Sri Lanka having won 2 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze medals, while hosts Pakistan occupies the third position with 4 silver and 8 bronze medals.
