Indian billiards has bright future: Sethi

Indore, Nov 26 (UNI) Former world champion Geet Sethi believes that Indian billiards has an extremely bright future and, barring cricket, it is the sole game that has been constantly witnessing successful international representation by the country.

''India bagged 24 world titles since 1956. Many promising new talents are emerging. It is unfortunate that billiards has been bracketed as an upper-class sport,'' Padmashri Sethi, who was in Madhya Pradesh's commercial capital for the 75th National Billiards and Snooker Championship, told UNI.

The Khel Ratna recipient, who has been playing billiards for 32 years, pointed out that the youth currently excelling in billiards hailed from the middle class.

''Golf and even badminton work out costlier that billiards in terms of coaching and equipment. Billiards can be played even by a person of average physical ability,'' he explained.

Lauding the contribution to the game by Wilson John, Michael Ferrera and Subhash Arora, Sethi added that he was focussing on the world championship scheduled at Indonesia.
