Indian Bank bags title
Chennai, June 10 (UNI) Local outfit Indian Bank defeated archrivals Indian Overseas Bank in five tough sets to annexe the men's title in the St Joseph's P John Memorial All India invitation Volleyball Tournament here tonight.
In a pulsating encounter, Indian Bank started well but lost ground midway, before regrouping well to score a 25-23, 17-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12 win and bag the winner's purse of Rs 30,000.
IOB on the other hand, fought well especially in the second and third set but failed to tighten the defence when it mattered most and had to content with the runner-up purse of 25,000.
Earlier, in a play off match for the third and fourth place, Southern Railway defeated Nellai Friends 25-18, 25-19.
Navin Raja Jacob of IOB was adjudged the promising player of the tournament, while Udayakumar of Nellai Friends was declared the best all rounder. Nithyanandam was picked as the best Libero. Cash awards were presented to these awardees.
