India to field 13-member squad in World Karate Championships

Chennai, Nov 8 (UNI) India will field a 13-member team of karatekas, who would be participating in various styles of the combat sport at the 19th World Senior Karate Championships to be at Tokyo in Japan from November 10 to 16.

According to a press release from all India Karate-Do Federation (AIKF) President Karate Thiagarajan here he would be the Chef- De- Mission of the team comprising Vijay Karthick (Individual kumite), K Saravanan (Team kata), R Masood Ahmed (Team kata), T Senthil (Individual kata and kumite open), Lakshman Singh(Individual kumite), Samir Das (Individual kumite), Ashok Darda (Individual kumite), Ashok Kumar (Individual kumite).

The team would also comprise three women members Shaheen Ansari (kumite), Poornam Singh (individual kumite) and Valena Velentina (Individual kata).

Sensei P R Ramesh, General Secretary of AIKF will be the team leader.

About 174 countries will be participating in the championship, he said.
