India thrashes Gouveia XI 4-0 lifts inaugural Gouveia cup

New Delhi, Jul 13 (UNI) Indian football team lifted the inaugural Gouveia Cup and ended their Portugal tour on a high note by thrashing Gouveia XI 4-0 in the final at Estadio Caldas last night.

India maintained their all-win record in the 12-day training-cum-exposure as Striker Sunil Chettri scored twice, while Abhishek Yadav and Tarif Ahmed found the target once each in an important match.

Indian team was leading 1-0 by a whisker with the help of impressive performances by Chhetri, Climax Lawrence and Tarif.

Chhetri set up the Abhishek Yadav first half goal and he himself had a nice volley that hit the crossbar.

In the second half, the Portuguese tried hard to stage a fightback but Chhetri soon scored two goals and took the game away from the home side.

The winning Indian team has maintained their fine form throughout the tournament. In their first match, they defeated Gouveia Select 2-0, while on Thursday last India beat GD Gafanha, a first division side of Aveiro League, 3-2 at Estadio de Gafanha.
