India scalps Mexico enroute to second round
New Delhi, Aug 18 (UNI) Indian junior spikers continued their winning streak knocking out host Mexico 3-1 to march into the second round of the Boys' Youth World Volleybal Championship.
Starting on a shaky note, India had to battle hard to pocket the tie 30-28, 25-27, 25-15, 25-16 in their favour, according to information received here.
The young Indian spikers took the first set 30-28 after a prolonged battle, but lost the next 25-27 as Mexico came up with vegeneance.
However, the Indian spikers took things under their control thereafter, thrashing the hosts in the last two sets 25-15, 25-16 to clinch the tie in their name.
For India Mandeep Singh was once again the top performance as he came up with a briliant 21 points score in the match.
India now joins the elite eight club of France, Brazil, Iran, Argentina, Belgium, China and Poland in the second round of the tournament.
Meanwhile, in the second round India are pitted in Pool E where they will play against Asian champions Iran, South American champion Brazil and tournaments under-dog team Argentina.
