India Outsurf China To Clinch Silver Medal At The Maruhaba Cup, Asian Surfing Championships 2024
Just a day after securing its first-ever Asian Games quotas in surfing, the Indian Surfing Team has achieved another milestone at the Asian Surfing Championships 2024.
The team clinched the silver medal by defeating China at the Maruhaba Cup, a prestigious team event held on Thulusdhoo Island in the Maldives. This victory not only highlights India's surfing talent but also marks a significant moment for Indian sports internationally.

The Maruhaba Cup, an important segment of the Asian Surfing Championship, saw elite surfers from across Asia competing in a high-stakes team event. India's performance was outstanding as they outshone many strong competitors, including China, to secure the silver medal.
Indian Team's Stellar Performance
The Indian team, comprising Kamali P, Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D, and Sanjay Selvamani, excelled in the Heat 2 semi-final with a total score of 32.16. Chinese Taipei followed closely with a score of 29.70, while South Korea finished third with 27.74 points in the same semi-final.
In the final round, India competed against some of Asia's finest surfers to secure second place with a team score of 24.13. Chinese Taipei and China secured third and fourth places with scores of 23.93 and 22.10 respectively. Japan won the gold medal with an impressive score of 58.40.

The Indian surfing squad from coastal Chennai showcased remarkable skill and finesse throughout the competition. Their relentless determination and expert wave-riding were crucial in achieving this podium finish.
