India lost to Qatar in Asian Basketball Championship

Tokushima, Japan, July 28 (UNI) India started their campaign at the FIBA Asian Basketball Championship on a disastrous note as they were outclassed by Qatar in a one-sided group encounter here today.

The Asian Games silver medallists showed their dominance throughout the match to register a comprehensive 106-49 victory.

Erfan Saeed, Hashim Zaidan and Salem Omar, each netting 12 points, were the main architects of Qatar's win. They have now put on a strong claim for the knockout round.

The only positive in India's defeat was forward Shiv Kumar, who scored 11 points.

India will now take on strong Kazakhstan in a do-or-die clash tomorrow.
