India is a logical extension in my coaching career: Whatmore
Dhaka, May 28 (UNI) Outgoing Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore today termed the probable 'pot boiler' Indian coach job as a logical extension of the bigger challenges in his career.
Whatmore who took over as Bangladesh coach in 2003 after quiting the Sri Lanka job, however, clarified that a decsion on his appointment is still to come.
''I am not India's coach. There have been speculations. It is just that a talk with the Indian cricket board. To say that I have already been appointed is not true,'' he said in a freelancing chat with reporters here.
When quizzed about his interest in taking up the Indian job, the Sri Lankan born Aussie said, ''It is a logical extension to a bigger challenge. It is the right step forward in the learning process as a coach.
''After four years you need a different challenge. I was asked by the BCB to continue, but I thought it was time to move forward.'' ''It is really a humbling experience to see that so many countries have approached me. It makes me feel that I am a little capable for this job,'' Whatmore added.
He also pointed out coaching style in the sub-continent is different to that of England and Australia in terms of the cultural upbringing.
When asked about the invincible 'midas touch' behind his success, he said, ''The idea is not to bring their game and philosophy or playing style here. They have a style that suits them in their country. India , Sri Lanka and Pakistan have their style and Bangladesh is learning to understand what style suits them best. The countries should perfect their respective styles and then they can hopefully do well.'' ''The basic fabric of cricket in India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan is not going to change,'' he added.
