India finish third at Junior Asia pacific golf championship

Fanling, May 19 (UNI) The Indian team registered its best ever show in the Junior Asia pacific golf championship but squandered a golden opportunity to emerge victorious after enjoying an overnight two-stroke lead over Chinese Tapaie at the Hong Kong Golf Club here.

The Indian team could not keep the tempo on the final day and slipped to third position.

Chinese Tapaie won the championship by two strokes over Thailand which came from behind with some superb performance.

India had great chance to win the championship but the main anchor for three rounds, Amanjyot Singh had a disastrous start with tripple bogey on the firsr hole iteself and could not recover to finish the final at eight-over-par 78. Among the other members, Rahul Bakshi played steady golf to finish at one-over 71 while Chikkarangappa finshed with four-over 74.

Chikkarangappa was the best Indian on display as he had helped India move in to top position with three-under 67 after round three but could not continue with the same form in the final round.

Chikkarangappa finished runner up in Cat B while Amanjyot Singh finished fourth and Rahul Bakshi was 5th.

The girls team finished joint fifth, with Lavery Kumar topping the honours for Indian girls to finish ninth over all. Vaishavi Sinha was placed 12th and Nalini Singh 19th.
