India Clinch Gold As Manisha And Neha Lead At Ulaanbaatar Open Ranking Series

India's wrestlers enjoyed a strong day at the Ulaanbaatar Open, Ranking Series in Mongolia, as Manisha and Neha claimed women's gold medals and the squad finished with four gold and two bronze medals across Greco-Roman and Women's Wrestling events on Wednesday.

The Indian contingent now holds a strong place in the overall medal standings, with six medals so far. Greco-Roman wrestlers have ended their campaign with two gold medals and one bronze, while Women's Wrestling delivered two gold medals and one bronze on the day.

Greco-Roman wrestlers deliver three medals

Sunil earned the 87kg Greco-Roman gold medal after a 4-1 win over Azad Salidinov. Nitesh secured the 97kg title, beating Nurassyl Amanaly 13-9 in a high-scoring final. Sumit won the 60kg bronze medal, defeating compatriot Sahil 5-0 in their bout.

WFI president hails strong international show

“The performances by Manisha and Neha, alongside the three-medal showing from our Greco-Roman wrestlers, demonstrate our competitive strength at the international level,” said Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh.

“Winning gold medals against top opponents from DPR Korea and Kazakhstan reflects the quality of our preparation. This successful start provides excellent momentum for the rest of the tournament.”

Women’s Wrestling add two gold and one bronze

Manisha struck gold in the 57kg Women's Wrestling class with a 3-1 win over DPR Korea's Sim Son. Neha added the 59kg title after beating DPR Korea's Pyol Hong 5-3. Earlier, Neelam earned 50kg bronze, beating Kazakhstan's Maral Tangirbergenova 10-0 by technical superiority.

With Greco-Roman fixtures complete, attention now shifts to the Men's Freestyle division and remaining Women's Wrestling weight classes, which start tomorrow in Ulaanbaatar, as Indian wrestlers look to build on their medal-winning run at the Ranking Series event.
