India beat Scotland in Commonwealth TT
Jaipur, May 30 (UNI) Defending champions India started their campaign on a winning note with a 3-1 win over Scotland in men's Ggroup B in the 17th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship which got underway at the SMS Indoor hall here today.
Their women counterparts, who finished fourth in the last edition of the championship, too prevailed over Wales 3-0 in Group D.
Reigning champions Singapore women proved too good for Pakistan as they routed them 3-0 in Group A.
Indian men though did not start well as Somyadeep Roy lost to Gavin Rumgay of Scotland in the first singles 6-11, 12-10, 7-11, 10-12.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sharath Kamal, however, brought India back in the game by defeating Stewart Crawford 11-1, 13-11, 9-11, 11-7. Subhajit Saha then recorded a straight set victory over Gordon Clancey in the third singles while Sharath Kamal whipped Gavin Rumgay also in straight sets in the fourth to round off the match.
Mouma Das, Poulomi Ghatak and Shamini Kumaresan each recorded straight set victories against their rivals in the women's tie against South Africa.
