India adds 7 gold in South Asian Swimming
Lahore, Sep 5 (UNI) India continued their dominance winning seven more gold on the second day of the first South Asian Swimming and Water Polo Championship at the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Swimming Pool here.
India had won four gold on the first day and has so far swept all but two gold medals of the 13 decided so far.
India has also nine silver to its kitty.
Pooja Ragaave was the star of the second day winning two gold in 400m individual medley and 200m individual medley, clocking 5:27.14 and 2:31.97 respectively.
In the 100m breaststroke, Fariha Zaman secured first position with a timing of 1:10.95, while compatriot Meghana Gupta came second with a timing of 1:13.84.
Then the Indian women quartet of Prooja Alva, Kshipra Mahajan, Fariha Zaman and Jessica Bole won gold in 400m medley relay, clocking 4:49.35.
Indian men's water polo team won the fifth gold outclassing hosts Pakistan 18-4 in the final.
The first quarter saw India leading 5-1. The hosts tried to come back in the second quarter but the margin increased to 9-3. India proved too strong again and squeezed ahead 13-3 at the end of the third quarter before emrging 18-4 winners.
Indian swimmers in Under 14 section added two more gold with Poorva Shetye and Tazasha Satish winning 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle.
Sri Lanka is occupying second position with one gold, one silver and eight bronze medals, while hosts Pakistan is at third place in the championship with one gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
