India achieve victory amidst a bunch of records

Dhaka, May 27 (UNI) Besides being India's biggest ever win, the final Test against Bangladesh today also saw some other records being made.

India scored 610 for three declared and then bowled out Bangladesh twice for 118 and 253 respectively in their two innings with nine overs remaining for day three to complete. India thus scripted their fourth win in five tests against Bangladesh.

However, this victory also meant that India has set a new record of their biggest margin win.

India previously defeated Australia in Eden Gardens in 1997-98 by an innings and 219 runs. Their previous best against Bangladesh was by an innings and 140 runs in Dhaka in 2004-05.

This is also the sixth time that India defeated any team within three days to win a Test matche. Previously they defeated West Indies, Zimbabwe, Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan to win Test matches within three days.

India also set the record of seeing their top four batsmen -- Wasim Jaffer, Dinesh Kaarthick, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar -- all scored centuries in one innings for the first time ever.

This was also a match of personal milestones with Anil Kumble becoming the fourth player to enter the select club of 550 wicket holder. He now has 552 wickets. The other three are Shane Warne with 708 wickets, Muttiah Muralitharan 674 and Glenn McGrath 563 wickets.

Zaheer also recoreded his fouth five wicket haul of his career with his first innings effort of 5 for 34.

For Bangladesh Mohammed Ashrafful who scored his fifty in 27 minutes eclipsed a 113-year-old record. The previous best was 28 minutes set by England's J T Brown against Australia in Melbourne in 1894-95.

In a day of the match, Bangladesh also used three wicket-keepers for the first time ever and ran close an English record.

In 1986, England used four wicket-keepers in New Zealand's first innings at Lord's.

The reason was that the appointed-keeper Bruce French was injured during England's first innings. Then Bill Athey kept for the first two overs before veteran Bob Taylor was pulled out of the sponsors tent to keep, immaculately, for 73 overs from over numbert three to 76.

Later, Hampshire keeper Bobby Parks was called up to keep wickets from 77th over to 140th, while French returned for the final ball of the day.

Bangladesh used three wicket keepers today in Khaled Masud, Rajen Saleh and Shakib-al-Hasan.
