I dedicate Nehru Cup victory to India and my father, says Pradeep

Kochi, Aug 30 (UNI) Rising Star of Indian Football N P Pradeep, who catapulted India to a historic Nehru Cup victory over Syria, said he was dedicating the triumph to his country and father.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of synthetic track at the Maharaja's College Ground here today, Pradeep said the practice matches in Portugal and camps prior to the tournament helped the team to prepare well for the championship.

''Coach Bob Houghton, who had been with the team for the past one year, gave strategic advice that augured well for the team's efforts on the field'' he added.

To a question, he said the team had played an aggressive match and rose to the occasion.

It was Pradeep's solitary goal in the 44th minute which turned the tables on the Syrians, who are nearly 40 places ahead of India in the FIFA rankings.

He said the prayers of many people had come true through the victory in the Nehru Cup yesterday.
