Humpy in joint lead after her 3rd straight win
Differdange, Luxembourg, July 10 (UNI) Grandmaster Koneru Humpy registered her third win on the trot to move into joint lead after four rounds at the Kaupthing Open International Chess Tournament here.
Humpy, who started the championship with a draw and won the next two games, carried forward her ominous form decimating Latvian Grandmaster Viesturs Meijers yesterday to share the three-way lead atop the table with 3.5 points.
Playing with black pieces, Humpy replied with e5 to the Latvian's king-pawn opening and after several moves, the game took the shape in exchange variations of Ruy Lopez lines.
Humpy played a very calculated game and kept her opponent on his toes. In the endgame, she made several attacks on the white king and made her opponent to surrender.
In the fifth round, Humpy will play with white pieces against co-leader International Master Dejan Bojkov of Bulgaria, who defeated India's Rohit G in another game.
Rohit lies at the bottom of the basket with 2.5 points.
