Holders India to meet Singapore in men's final
Jaipur, June 1 (UNI) Defending champion and hosts India will take on Singapore in the men's team final of the 17th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship here tomorrow.
Meanwhile, women have assured them selves third position in the championship as they will finish as joint runners up alongwith Australia.
Indian men recorded a facile 3-0 victory over Australia and top group F with an unbeaten record. Singapore too finished on top in group E with all three wins. Subhajit Saha gave a flying start to India defeating Kiet Song Tran by 11-8, 8-11, 11-3, 11-6 while Sharath Kamal thrashed William Henzell 11-5, 11-8, 11-6, in the second singles.
Soumyadeep Roy had to toil hard before beating Kyle Davis in a ding dong battle which was stretched to full five sets.
Roy displayed brilliant performance and won the tie on 12-10, 11-5, 8-11, 6-11, 11-7.
Indian women lost to the holders Singapore 0-3 in their last league match. Yue Gu Wang defeated Shamini Kumaresan by 9-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-4 but Bei Bei Sun had to toil hard before beating Poulomi Ghatak by 7-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-3. Paey Fem Tan outplayed national chamapion Mouma Das 11-7, 11-8, 5-11, 14-12.
