Himalayan Classic Rally to culminate oh Apr five here
Kolkata, Mar 30 (UNI) The 2nd Himalaya Classic Car Rally 2007, an adventure on classic and vintage cars, will culminate here on April five after covering 5000 kms.
The rally started from Udaipur and will reach Kolkata via Kathmandu and Bhutan.
The event, which is a driving adventure of classic and vintage cars, is being organised by ROARR (Rhythm of A Road Rallies) of the United Kingdom.
The rally was flagged off by His Highness Arvind Singh Mewar, the erstwhile Maharana of Udaipur on March nine last.
For the participants, the 5000- km long Rally is a challenge and not a race. It is a test for the vehicles as well as the drivers as the grand cars roar through the Himalayan terrain.
The participants come from various countries including England, France, Australia, Switzerland, Italy and Germany. Uday Bhan Singh is the Indian participant from Howrah and is known to be an avid jeep collector.
He is driving a Willys jeep used in the World War. The rally has visited Jaipur, Amritsar, Dharamsala, Shimla, Rishikesh, Corbett National Park in India before entering Nepal where they travelled through the Royal Bardia Park, Pokhara, Kathmandu and Kohai Tappu before entering India.
From Kalimpong, the Rally entered Bhutan of Phuentsholing on March 29. In its present leg, the Rally will be traversing the land of the Golden Dragon as they explore the magnificence of the beautiful country hidden in the Himalayas.
The route is a tough one for the modern day cars and it will be a test of convictions and perseverence for the participants and the 16 Classic and Vintage cars which include Bentleys, Volvos and Mercedes. The rally will re enter India from Siliguri and move on to Malakda before finally reaching Kolkata on Thursday.
