Hendricks to suggest introduction of foreign coaches in PHL
Chandigarh, Feb 28 (UNI) After introducing a number of innovations, Premier Hockey League consultant and Spain coach Maurits Hendricks says he will suggest bringing in foreign coaches for PHL teams.
Talking to reporters at the third leg of the PHL, Hendricks said, ''I will give my suggestion on the foreign coaches to the Indian Hockey Federation. If they want the Indian hockey to improve, they should accept this idea. It will benefit the Indian hockey.'' Hendricks promised to bring players from Germany for the PHL next year. This year, Santi Freixa of Spain and Argentinian Mario Almada are the big names who were seen in action in the Chennai and Chandigarh legs.
Foreign players from Pakistan, South Korea and Australia are representing different clubs competing in the seven-team league.
Ramon Alegre is the second Spanish player taking part in the PHL, donning Hyderabad Sultans.
Talking about Indian hockey, Hendricks, who has transformed Spain into one of the leading hockey playing countries, said Korea, China and Japan had emerged on top and were now ranked in that order in the Asian hockey.
Former Asian giants, India and Pakistan, are ranked below them in Asia.
