Heavy rains make play uncertain
Georgetown, Guyana, Apr 1 (UNI) Heavy overnight as well as morning rains have delayed the all-important match between the West Indies and Sri Lanka at the Providence Stadium here today.
There is little chance of play starting before lunch as heavy rains lashed the stadium till the filing of this report with the wicket and the surroundings been put on cover.
This is a must win situation for the West Indies who have lost back to back matches against mighty Australia and New Zealand.
''We have lost the luxury of listing two matches at the Super Eight stage and now from here we have to win every match notwithstanding who is the opponent,'' hosts captain Brian Lara told reporters.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka skipper Mehela Jayawardene is confident that after giving the scare to South Africa, they are in a much better position to win the match.
The umpires are making an inspection at 10:30 am local time (2000 hrs IST) to decide the future course of the game.
