Haryana, ITBP win gold in Sr National Judo championship

Vijayawada, Jan 14: Junior national champion Rajini of Haryana today won the gold in below 44-kg women category final of the Senior National Judo championship, which concluded at DRRMC Indoor stadium here.

The silver medal went to Ranjith Kaur of CRPF and the bronze to Nimrata of Punjab and Kavitha L Swant of Karnataka.

In the men's below 56-kg category final, two-time national champion Chap Singh of ITBP won the gold, while silver was bagged by Sandeep of Delhi and bronze by Sushil Gaikwad of Maharashtra-B and Varenderjit Singh of CRPF.

In the women's open category final, five time national champion and gold medalist in 2006 SAF Games at Sri Lanka, L Nirupama Devi of CRPF won the gold. The silver went to Aarthi Koli of CISF and bronze to Aruna of Haryana and Hetal Dave of Maharashtra-A.

Three time national champion and SAF games gold medialist at Lanka, Virender Singh of ITBP won the gold, while six-time national champion and Judo International championship bronze medialist at Mauritius in 2003, Pradeep Tokas of CRPF won silver, Satish Yadav of Uttar Pradesh and Rajpal Tokas of SSCB won bronze in the men's open category final.

In the men's section, last time bronze medialist Karambir Singh of CRPF won the gold in the below 73-kg final. Vikender singh of Haryana got a silver and Vinod Gill of CISF and Baljinder Singh of Assam, bronze each, defeating Dinesh Chana of Uttar Pradesh and Md Zamin Naqui of Andhra Pradesh respectively. In the below 66-kg final, last time Junior National champion Hardeep Singh of Chandigarh won the gold, Kuldeep Raj of Punjab got silver and Parvinder of Haryana and Kuldeep Saini of BSF bagged bronze medals, defeating Satpal of Rajasthan and Bhupendra of AIPSCB, respectively.

In the below 60-kg, Punjab's Navojot Chana, a gold medalist in Junior Judo Asian championship in 2003 and gold medalist in 2004 Commonwealth championship won the gold, Arjun awardee Akramsha of CRPF, silver, Arvind of BSF, L Dinith Singh of Assam, bronze, each defeating Pramod of Delhi and Ashwini Kumar of Haryana, respectively in the final.
