Haryana inducts Mamta Kharab, Joginder Sharma as DSPs
Chandigarh, Sept 6 (UNI) Haryana today honoured two of its outstanding sportspersons -- renowned hockey player Mamta Kharab and noted cricketer Joginder Sharma, by inducting them in the police force as Deputy Superintendents of Police.
While handing over appointment letters to them, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced major incentives to the sportspersons of the state exhibiting outstanding performance in any international sports event.
Any hockey player who would score a goal in any international event would be given a cash incentive of Rs 10,000 per goal.
Similarly, the cricketer who would make a century in international event would be given Rs 1 lakh and Rs 25,000 for taking a wicket, he said.
The Chief Minister also announced to promote two sportspersons of Haryana Police -- Ramesh Kumar and Shamsher Singh from the post of Sub Inspector to Inspector.
The Chief Minister said incentives announced by the state government would encourage the sportspersons of the state to perform even better.
He said the players who showed potential and keen interest in any sports needed encouragement from the parents and the government.
They should be provided opportunities to attain excellence in their respective games.
Mr Hooda said the state government had taken several steps to promote sports. These included increase in the diet money of players from Rs 50 to Rs 100, approval to construct an ultra modern sports stadium over an area of 83 acres of land in Rohtak, construction of a multipurpose hall and setting up of an Astroturf in the Moti Lal Nehru Sports School at Rai at a cost of Rs 2.40 crore and Rs 3.45 crore respectively, construction of 152 sports stadia at a cost of Rs 73 crore in the villages of the state.
The medal winners of Doha asiad and Melbourne commonwealth games were given cash prize of Rs 1.83 crore, he added.
